Today I took Christian and Abbie to purchase school supplies for themselves and we also filled up two backpacks with school supplies to donate to children who don’t have enough money to purchase their own supplies. While leaving the store I asked Christian and Abbie if they would like to give some of their allowance to help pay for the supplies we were donating. Abbie’s answer surprised me.
Abbie said, “No, mom I can’t. I’m saving up $100 to give so we can be missionaries.”
I was surprised and confused so I asked, “What do you mean you’re saving up $100 so we can be missionaries? The way it works is that other people will give money so that we can go to Asia and tell people about Jesus. We don’t give money to ourselves.”
Abbie said, “But mom I want to give too! I want to help us get to Thailand soon because people need to hear about Jesus, so I want to give $100 so we can move faster. Can’t I give too?”
My sweet girl. She only gets $4 a week (well technically she gets $5 but we ask her to put $1 in the offering plate each week), so it’s going to take her a good long time to save up $100 but she gets that giving to God’s work is worth it. I couldn’t stop smiling the whole way home. My baby gets it – there is so much joy in giving so the gospel can be spread!
