Hurricane Irene

8/31/2011

Last week Hurrican Irene hit the east cost.  Thankfully by the time it reached Long Island it was only a tropical storm so our damage was relatively minimal.  We lost a lot of tree branches, one of the bricks flew off our chimney, several rain gutter guards fell off, and we lost power for three days, but we are all safe and sound.  In our neighborhood some people lost entire trees (HUGE trees, roots and all, completely uprooted) and several electric poles fell down - many of the trees and poles fell into the roads blocking them.  Please keep praying for all the families who lost loved ones and homes due to this disaster.

This branch fell directly where we usually park our minivan, but thankfully the night before the storm hit Greg moved our minivan to the street so it was safe.

Vacation Bible School

8/22/2011

Greg and I helped organize our first Vacation Bible School last week!  At our church VBS is led primarily by the youth with a few adults overseeing.  Our teens did an amazing job pouring all of their energy and love into the 54 kids who attended!  Our theme was "Fruit of the Spirit" and it was a fabulous week filled with fruity skits, crafts, stories, snacks, and games!  ELEVEN 4th-5th Graders accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and THREE reconfirmed their salvation.  Praise the Lord!

The below video is a summary of our week - some super cute pictures of Christian and Greg dressed up like a tree (the kids called him GTree or Pastor GTree - hilarious)! :)

Whirwind Summer

8/22/2011

The past summer has been a whirlwind - Christian's birthday party, vacation in Michigan during which Greg's brother got married and a new little niece was born, lots of trips with visiting friends to NYC, Greg and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary, and this past week was VBS at our church!   Whew - makes me tired just thinking about it all! :)  I apologize for the lack of updates during the past few months, but with the business there wasn't much timing for blogging.  I know many of you are getting itchy for pictures of the little ones, so this week I'll definitely get busy posting various updates about all the aforementioned events. :)

Today was a cool summer day and the breeze reminded me that summer is ending and fall is on its way!  Christian starts pre-school in just two weeks!  I can't believe this fall my little man will be gone every day from 1:00-3:30 playing with little friends and learning in a school setting.  I'm going to miss him sooo much, but Kindergarten in our town is full day so doing 1/2 day preschool is a necessity to get him ready for that big step of full day school.  Thankfully we were accepted into our town's free pre-school program (130 kids are drawn lottery style to go to a wonderful local pre-school for FREE), so that's a huge blessing!  I'm praying that he'll choose good friends and that my little Christian will SHINE as a little follower of Christ in his pre-school!  Will you join be in praying for him?
