Death Stings

4/12/2012

My Uncle John passed away on Monday morning.  He was a wonderful Christian man who lost his battle with cancer.  He was my mom's brother.  Particularly whenever there is a death on my mom's side of the family, first my Grampie and now my Uncle John, it makes the pain of my mom's death resurface and sting.  It makes me miss her a lot.  At the same time it makes me happy to think of my mom and her brother reunited.

As I read my uncle's obituary this morning it made me happy to know that Christian and Abbie are two of the three great nieces and nephews mentioned.  I'm happy Greg and I made him a Great Uncle before he joined my mom in heaven.

Friday morning I'll be flying to Indiana for my uncle's funeral and I'll be there until Monday morning.  Please pray for my flights to go smoothly and safely.  Please pray for Greg, Christian, and Abbie as we're apart for the weekend.  Please pray that I'll be a blessing to my family this weekend.  And most of all, please pray for my Grammie and family during this difficult time.

Death stings.  Death brings tears and heart ache.  Death hurts in this world.  But someday when our mortal bodies have been transformed to immortal bodies, and we are all together in heaven then we will be able to joyfully proclaim that death's sting is over.  We will be together and victorious someday!

1 Corinthians 15:51-57
"I tell you a mystery.  We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.  For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.  For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.  When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: 'Death is swallowed up in victory.  O death, where is your victory?  O death, where is your sting?'  The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
